I am absolutely in love with the idea of building a garden room / green house at home. I envisage a wonderfully light, plant filled room that doubles up as a functioning greenhouse but also as a place to quietly have a cup of tea or host a summertime dinner party. I can't wait to start designing the space. The reality is that if you live in the UK the weather is, lets face it, pretty unreliable most of the time. There are plenty of days when it would / could be lovely but there is a slight nip in the air or the wind is too gusty which in turn means that we end up eating the vast majority of our meals indoors. Who wants to do that!? Surely everyone loves a picnic and so I would love to build a space where we can eat 'al fresco' for at least three of our seasons.
I'm envisaging a space that isn't too cavernous but does have some nice head height, reclaiming brick floors to make it feel like it has always stood in its location, and a wonderfully rustic long table for potting up baby plants whilst becoming that lovely dining table too. Imagine the heady scent of fresh herbs around you as you tuck into a lovely meal or easily pinching off some refreshing mint leaves to add to a jug of water. I feel that the kids will also be more engaged with their food if they can pick a tomato directly from their chair and pop it on their plates.
This is a dream that will become a reality... so watch this space!
